Peruvian delegation and GV06
The
Global Village 2006 event centred
on an international camp that was held in Kent from 29th July to
the 9th of August 2006. The event was hosted by the Woodcraft Folk
on behalf of the International Falcon Movement . It focussed on the theme of the Millenium Development Goals and sought to
inform young people about these through a series of educational
workshops, games and other activities. The camp was attended by
4,500 young people from over 50 countries around the world.
Delegations from developing countries who attended the camp were hosted by youth
organisations from European countries who assisted them in the expenses
associated with attending the event. The Cambridge District hosted
a delegation from Peru belonging to the organisation Club Infantil
23 de Mayo - CHAP.
The delegation visited Cambridge for several days before and after
attending GV06 with the Cambridge District.
The visit by the Peruvian delegation was made possible
by a massive fund raising effort which involved numerous members
of the Cambridge District. In particular over £6,000 was raised by
an auction of promises which was supported by donations from numerous
people as listed here . The Cambridge District also acknowledges
generous financial donations from the following companies and organisations:
Rio Tinto plc, The National
Union of Teachers, Cambridge Cooperative Party, Education Services.
Additional support from many other individuals and organisations
is also gratefully acknowledged.
Reports from various people are available here.
